David (Dave) Oree Corbitt, 84, former longtime resident of Sandusky, Ohio passed away from his earthly treasures to his heavenly reward January 31, 2014 in Heath, Ohio following a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 24, 1929 in Calhoun City, MS. to the late Roie and Lillie (Steele) Corbitt.
His family relocated to the Toledo, Ohio area during Dave's childhood. After a formal education @ Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, David joined the United States Army where he proudly served and was honorably discharged after the Korean Conflict.
David was a former member of Braden Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio.
David landed a job at Ford Motor Company, Sandusky, Ohio in 1956. David had an encounter while working at Ford in 1967 that would change his life forever when he met the love of his life Maxine Celeste Carroll (Grissom) Corbitt, who was his best friend, his confidant, his caretaker, his companion, and his wife for 46 years.
David was blessed with a wonderful blended family and he took great joy in being called dad and even more so in being called grandpa "paw-paw". His family justified who he was on this earth. He was a man of modest means, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone regardless of their walk in life. Anyone that knew him knew he kept himself and his cars polished, but when he liked roughing it you would often times find him gardening or fishing.
After moving to Heath, Ohio 5 years ago, he enjoyed attending sporting events for his granddaughters, his dog Oreo and watching the Cleveland Indians to which he became an avid fan. His laughter was infectious as he would watch reruns of his favorite show Sanford and Son and innocently pick with his wife. Often times he would declare "I don't have a pain in my body, I just can't walk." His final request each night before he would drift off to sleep was to turn on his gospel music, which would cause tears to flow and a smile to appear on his face.
As his health began to decline he began to transition from religion to relationship with God. In November of 2012, Dave made his confessions known to God as he repented to the Father for any transgressions done in his mortal body, he then willfully accepted Jesus into his life as his personal Savior.
He is survived by his loving wife Maxine; Step-mother Irene (Edward)Thompson, Sisters Allene Brownridge , Elsie Seay, Mary Dunson all of Toledo, OH, Glenda (Odell) Barry of Westminster, CO; Daughters Tanya (Leslie) Stanford-Corbitt of Trotwood, OH; Leslie Cunningham and Sharon(Corbitt)Charlton both of Sandusky, OH; Sons Marlon" Keith" (Jonah) Corbitt of Marysville, Washington; Walter "Kent" (Judy) Cunningham of Delaware, OH; Dennis (Isadore)Cunningham of Sandusky, OH; David "Kevin" (Sheila) Corbitt of Dayton, OH; Marvin
