Robert L. Baum, 65, of Norwalk, Ohio died early Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
He was born April 8, 1948 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late LeRoy F. and Lois (Schwanger) Baum and was a lifelong area resident.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio and a 1966 graduate of Western Reserve High School. Robert was a lifelong farmer, a longtime employee of Wicks Lumber Company. He enjoyed traveling, especially train and riverboat travel, and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jackie (Tretter) Baum, his daughters and sons in law, Jessica S. and Brian Mehus, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Wendy L. and Jake Mathiason of Golden Valley, Minnesota, by his grandson Theo J. Mathiason, and by his sister and brother in law, Lynda and Don Davis, of Loveland, Colorado, and special cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his brother Larry Baum and by his sister Judy Dunn.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Lutheran Church 257 Benedict Ave. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. David Connor will officiate.
