William (Bill) John Ball, Jr., 71, of Norwalk, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord after battling a long term illness, with his wife and children at his side, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in Fisher- Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, Ohio.
He was born March 26, 1943 in Irvington, New Jersey to the late William J. and Florence M. (Kupper) Ball, Sr. and came to this area in 1972 from Islelin, New Jersey.
Bill was a 1961 graduate of Woodbridge High School, Woodbridge, New Jersey. He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Norwalk, Ohio, in 1974 and served as a deacon. He also served with Sunday School and Bible School. Bill began working in 1962 at Hyatt in Clark, New Jersey. He transferred to New Departure Hyatt in 1972 where he worked until his retirement in September 2005.
Bill dedicated many years to the Lefty Grove Baseball League serving as a coach and umpire beginning in 1978. He began serving on the board of directors in 1986 where he served as secretary, treasurer, trustee, and advisor. Bill was also recognized as a lifetime board member. He played an instrumental part in allowing females the opportunity to play in the league. He was a member of Aerie #444 Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Sandusky, Ohio until he retired. He transferred his membership to Aerie #711 Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Norwalk, Ohio in 2005. He was an avid collector of records and loved music. Bill enjoyed gardening. He loved decorating for the Holidays with Christmas being his favorite time of year.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia A. (Burns) Ball of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Jacqueline Ball Meehan of Toms River, New Jersey, William "Billy" (Shelly) Ball of Norwalk, Ohio, Marc (Carrie) Ball of Norwalk, Ohio, Patrick Ball (Nicole Iehle) of Norwalk, Ohio, and Kristen (Ball) (Brian) Armbrust of Blacklick, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, and one grandchild and one great grandchild, soon to be born. Bill is also survived by his brother, John (Patricia) Ball of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine (Thomas) Pinto. Friends may call on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Friends may also call on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Adrian Doll will officiate.
