Lynda Carpenter, 66, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away at home on Thursday, April 24, 2014 after a very courageous battle against cancer.
She was born on September 12, 1947, in Sandusky, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of the town although she would have much rather lived among the Amish. Preferably somewhere out in the country. She decided to stay here in Sandusky to be close to the family and friends that she had made throughout her life and loved.
Although she never had the need to have a traditional job, she did for a short period of time work for Goodwill Industries where she made many friends after all of her children had grown. She wasn't there long however when she was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild and proudly took on the role of nana and caregiver. Her greatest loves were those of being a wife, mother, nana, sister and aunt to her family that were so blessed to have her and a loving friend to her truest of trues.
While Lynda was not a religious person and didn't regularly attend a church or consider herself a member of a particular religion, she was in fact, deeply spiritual and filled with faith and believed in God, our Heavenly Father and made many special friends along her journey.
She is survived by her husband and hearts joy, Ralph Carpenter, whom she met when they were just 15 years old and was married for 47 years. Her two daughters Lori (Jack) Brittain, of Huron, Ohio and Stephanie (Chris) Carpenter-O'Farrell, of Norwalk, Ohio; her son, Brett Carpenter of Springfield, Ohio and her beloved grandson Michael Carpenter of Norwalk, Ohio. She is also survived by her brothers and sister. Richard (Dewan) Cheatham, of Clyde, Ohio, Charles Cheatham of Sandusky Ohio and Betty (John) Ehrhardt, of Sandusky, Ohio and many special nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly as she did them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jean Cheatham of Sandusky Ohio.
Friends and family can call at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 East Perkins Ave, Sandusky, Ohio until the time of funeral services 12:00 pm. A short graveside prayer will be said following the funeral at Oakland Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held immediately following at the gathering house located at Lakefield Manor, 4901 West Waterbury Drive, Huron, Ohio 44839.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lynda's name and honor to St. Jude Tribute Program P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 per her request, an organization she supported and was very passionate about throughout her life.
In closing, the family would like for you to remember not the event of Lynda's passing, but her humble, loving spirit, the way her eyes twinkled when she was having a great time or pulled off a great joke, and the immense love that she had and shared with her close family and friends. Spread her legacy, smile at a stranger, and hold your loved ones close. In the end, all there is, is love.
How blessed we have been to have had someone in our lives that makes saying goodbye so hard.
Until we are with her again, love will remember.
