John G. Kaiser

John G. Kaiser Jr., 71, passed away on April 29, 2014, from an apparent heart attack, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born on October 16, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio.

He graduated from Norwalk High in June of 1960, the 100th class. He went to Ohio Northern University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1966. John graduated in the spring of 1966, and he married Sheila (Slavik) on August 6th of that year. To their union has- come one daughter, Lisa Nestor (Tommy).

Rather than wait until he was drafted, John enlisted in the Navy on October 21, 1968. He was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training for his basic training. Being a college graduate and a Pharmacist, he was sent to the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he served the remainder of his enlistment. John was honorably discharged in 1972, after which he returned to Norwalk to run the family business, Kaiser •Wells Inc-.

John believed in giving back to his community and helping others. This is evident through his Associations: Stein Hospice; The Fisher Titus Foundation; The American Lung Association; Rotary Club of Norwalk ; Elks Lodge #730; and the Norwalk Jaycees. He was also a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

John had a zest for life and lived every day to the fullest. He was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed bowling in tournaments with his friends. He enjoyed golf and could be seen many countless hours at Eagle Creek Golf Club where he's been a member since its opening. He also enjoyed gambling and looked forward to poker games with his buddies. He enjoyed meeting people, loved spending time with his friends, and worshipped his family.

In addition to his wife, Sheila, and his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tommy, he is also survived by his sister and her companion, Joanne Kaiser and Jane Vowell of Palm Beach Shores, Florida; a brother and his wife, Albert and Suzanne of Los Gatos, California, and his father-in-law, Raymond Slavik. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Dean and Janis Slavik, Loren and Darlene Slavik, Paul Slavik, and June and Steve Rapp, and several nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Beatrice Kaiser and his mother-in-law, Betty Slavik.

Friends can express their condolences on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 60 West Main St. Norwalk, Ohio, where Pastors Fred Wiechers and Brian Oglesby will officiate. A celebration of his life will follow the funeral services at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
