Donald G. Erne, 83, residing in Huron and formerly of Kelleys Island, Bay View and Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2014 at The Meadows at Osborn Park after a brief illness.
Donald was born on January 30, 1931 in Kelleys Island, OH to the late Alphone and Ida (Sturm) Erne.
Donald worked as a deckhand for Neuman Boat Line, as a drag tender for the Army Corps of Engineers, and retired from United States Gypsum Company in Port Clinton after many years of service.
Donald is survived by his sister, Joyce Erne; God-daughter, Linda (Erne) Mahony; daughter-in-law, Donna Bailey; two step-children; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and many special friends.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his wife Lois (Bailey) Erne and siblings, Amanda (Elmer) Farkas, Roy (Iva) Erne, Andrew (Bernadette) Erne, Lena (Carl) Friedman, and Floyd Erne.
A Memorial Service celebrating Donald's life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky.
