Alex P. Kasuga, 95, of Bellevue, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Bellevue Care Center.
He was born June 13, 1918 in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, OH to William and Mary (Pers) Kasuga.
He married Rose (Artino) Kasuga on January 21, 1939 in Immaculate Conception Church, Bellevue and spend 74 years together until her passing, May 11, 2013.
Alex was a graduate of Bellevue High School, where he excelled in Track & Field, and setting school records in the running events. He retired from Norfolk - Western railroad as an engineer where he worked from 1943 until 1983. As an avid gardener, his yard and flower gardens were not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but also meticulously groomed. Faith and family were very important to him. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and later in his life served Masses at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine. He was always willing to help both churches in any way possible, whether it was by physical labor or financial assistance.
Surviving is his son, Gerald Kasuga, Bellevue; bother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike & Nancy Barrett of Bellevue and several nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States.
Besides his beloved wife, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Peg (Kasuga) Kahler and Shari Kasuga; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter & Rita (Miller) Kasuga and Albert & Ann (Johnovitch) Kasuga.
Visitation with family and friends will be at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine, 4106 N State Route 269, Bellevue, OH 44811 on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 10:00-11:00 am where the funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue, OH 44811 or the Sorrowful Mother Shrine, 4106 N State Route 269, Bellevue, OH 44811.
