Joyce G. Gilbert, 57, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away early Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2014 in Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, Ohio.
She was born July 24, 1956 in Charleston Heights, West Virginia, and lived in the Norwalk, Huron, and New London, Ohio areas most of her life.
Joyce was a former employee of New London Hospital, Ike's Diner, Bob Evans, Milan Inn, and the Holiday Inn in Sandusky, Ohio. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, riding on her husband's motorcycle, and spending time with her family.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 31 years, Glen Gilbert of Vermilion, Ohio, by her children, Angel (Kevin Campbell) Ramsey of Vermilion, Ohio, Brian (Tina) Gilbert of Sandusky, Ohio, and Todd (Molly) Gilbert of Huron, Ohio, by her mother, Verna Maurer of Norwalk, Ohio, and by six grandchildren, Nick Sams, Skyler Gilbert, Meadow Gilbert, Jake King, Max King, and Kate Gilbert.
She is also survived by her siblings, Tammy Kissenger of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Debbie (Paul) Hanson of Norwalk, Ohio, Church Fortner of Bickley, West Virginia, Roger Fortner of Norwalk, Ohio, and Mike (Nikki) Mauer of Norwalk, Ohio.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Charles G. Fortner, by her step son, Glen Michael Gilbert, by her granddaughter, Ciara Sams, and by her sisters in law, Jodi Fotner, and Kathy Fortner.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. in the Norwalk Baptist Church, 2084 U.S. Route 20 West, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Joel Capizzi will officiate.
