Chad Louis Ries, 32, residing in Ruskin, FL and formerly of Sandusky, OH died Saturday, May 3, 2014 after succumbing from injuries he received in an accident.
Chad was born on March 9, 1982 in Sandusky to Mark Ries and Teresa Ries Wittmer.
Chad is a 2000 graduate of Sandusky High School and EHOVE. Chad then joined the United States Army and worked as a Net Switch systems operator and was a paratrooper affiliated with the 82nd Airborne. Chad completed two tours in Iraq. He then worked at L3 Communications as a contractor and was sent to Iraq for an additional tour. Chad was currently employed as a Consulting Systems Engineer with World Wide Technology out of St. Louis, MO. He enjoyed boating, skiing, kayaking, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Christen (Lane) Ries; children, Cierra and Cayden all of Ruskin, FL; his parents Mark (Tammy) Ries of Sandusky, OH and Teresa (John) Wittmer of Vermilion, OH; siblings, Kari (Chris) Yoder of Columbus, OH, Brooke (Darius) Fleener of Camp Lejeune, NC, and Lauren Ries of Sandusky, OH; paternal grandfather, Wallace Ries of Huron,OH; maternal grandparents, Shirley and Bill Smith of Mico, TX; and Nancy Hasenmeier; of Vermillion, OH; several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends.
Chad was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marilyn Ries; maternal grandfather, Walter Hasenmeier, and nephew, Alexander Fleener.
Friends and family may call on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH. A funeral service will take place Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Donna Bretz presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. A reception will follow at the American Legion, 3615 Hayes Ave., Sandusky, OH.
