August "Augie" J. Kaufman, 85, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 7, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Augie was born on July 5, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late August and Melva (Buchman) Kaufman.
Augie was a 1946 graduate from Sandusky High School and was a Veteran of the US Army. He was owner and operator of A&K Construction, and always made sure the work done for his friends was done perfectly. Augie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky and also often attended the United Methodist Church. He was past Commodore of the Sandusky Yacht Club and a Hall of Fame member of the Sandusky Bowling Association. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, and was known for generously giving away his tomatoes, peanut butter fudge and zucchini bread.
Augie is survived by his sons, Greg (Deborah) and Terry (Lynn) Kaufman; daughter, Margaret Basilone; eight grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Michelle, Stephanie, Todd, Erik, Ann and Kristy; seventeen grandchildren; brother, Ronald Kaufman; special friend, Diane Stahl and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Augie is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce (Joerger) Kaufman and siblings, Vincent, June, Ethlyn and Oral.
Private family services will take place at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky, with burial following in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
