Leon Lodermeier, age 90, longtime resident and businessman of Norwalk, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans Home.
Leon served in the US Navy from February 11, 1943 to February 11, 1947. His service included the South Pacific and the Bikini Islands where the Navy's underwater Atomic bomb testing took place ( Operation Crossroad).
Leon worked for the Norwalk Truck Lines from October 27, 1947-February 27, 1962. He purchased the corner property of Linwood and Seminary Streets, April 1, 1962 and opened "Lodermeier's Garage". Leon retired May 5, 1985, his sons Jeff and John "Jack" Lodermeier currently own and operate his business on the same property "Linwood Automotive".
Leon was active in many organizations, VFW Post 2743 (Past Commander); Huron County Veterans Group (President 1995); Knights of Columbus (1950-present); and Life Association of Atomic Veterans.
Leon is survived by his sisters: Rose Marie Gleich, Marie Kueblebeck, Sister Theresa OSB, children: William Lodermeier of Middle Bass, OH, Mary Pat Rolf of Pennsylvania, John (Jack) Lodermeier of Norwalk, Ohio, Jeffrey Lodermeier of Norwalk, Ohio; 12 grandchildren: Alex, Adam, Erik Lodermeier; Lynn(III), Nicholas, Zachary, Ryan Rolf; Jamie Lodermeier-Fay, Jessica Lodermeier-Webb, Brian, Bethany Koch, Kyle Lodermeier; great grandchildren: Zoe and Kaya Lodermeier, Jack, Andrew, Colby Fay, Jacob, Caleb Webb, Layla Koch, and Abel Rolf. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Imelda (Tilly), and siblings: Ester Doty, Catherine Dierkheising, Delores Phillips, Virgil and William Lodermeier.
A mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at St. Paul Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Followed burial military honors at St. Paul Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph's Adult Day Care Centre in Leon's name in care of the funeral home.
