Betty J. Shepherd, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 4, 2014 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness, one day before she began her 90th year.
Betty was born on June 5, 1925 in Coeur d'alene, Idaho to the late Joseph L. and Mary T. (Dolan) Loisel.
Betty attended the University of Toledo. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky Yacht Club and the National Rifle Association. She devoutly practiced her faith and supported many charitable organizations. In her spare time she enjoyed boating, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Patricia (Dennis) Martin of Huron, Mary Kay Shepherd of Sandusky, and Christine (Richard) Zimmer of Huron; two sons, William Leonard Shepherd III of Toledo, OH and James J. (Pamela) Shepherd of Washington, DC; fourteen grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan), Jason (Michelle), Holly (Eric), Adam (Heather), Brian, Shannon, Ryan, Colin, Morgan, Jennifer (Richard), Jillian, Katherine, Kathryn and Emily; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles J. (Carol) Loisel.
In addition to her parents, is preceded in death by her husband, William Len Shepherd Jr., whom she married on April 21, 1951; grandson, William Leonard Shepherd IV; brother, Jude Loisel; sister, Ann Benn; and daughter-in-law, Brenda L. Shepherd.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A Rosary Service will be held in the funeral home at 6:30 pm Sunday evening. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 am on Monday, June 9, 2014 in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky with Father Joe Steinbauer presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
