James "Jim" Brown

James "Jim" Brown, 83, of Lakewood and formerly of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 5, 2014 in Lakewood Hospital.

He was born on August 5, 1930 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Glen B. and Leona G. (Perry) Brown.

Jim was a U.S. Army veteran. He was many things in his lifetime, including commercial salesman, airplane pilot, owner of B & B Lock and Key, commercial fisherman, and captain of the ships McGarvey's and Nautical Queen.
He was a member of Sts. Cyryl & Methodius Church. A man of many talents, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved golf, guns, and loved to read - reading his Bible daily. Able to preside over marriages in Ohio, he was known by many as "Captain Love."

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Maryanne Brown, to whom he has been with 48 years; children, Sandy (Bob) Rickard, Becky (Tom) Schwanger, and Jimmy Brown, all of Sandusky, Nancy (Larry) Skoch, of Rome, OH, Karen (Bill) Novak, of Troy, MI, and Debbie (Dean) Gawne, of FL; grandchildren, Shane (Lana), Chad (Jen), Nikki, Josh, Jesse (Jackie), Kim, Will, Mandy, Danny, and Joey; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Robert Grathwol; sister-in-law, Jo Sabol; numerous cousins and nieces and nephews; dogs, Heidi, Holly, Heather; and cats, Rocky and Roxy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Sue Brown; brothers, Lt. Col. John "Jack" and "Jerry"; and sister, Marlene.

Friends may call from 3-7 P.M. on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Scott Goodfellow will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky, where the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide military honors.
