Thelma M. Payton

Thelma M. Payton, 75, Sandusky, died Monday, February 21, 2011, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

She was born on January 18, 1936 in Collins, MS, to the late Mervin and Mattie (Page) Owens. Thelma enjoyed playing bingo and the lottery, watching sports, and gardening. She also enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, sons, Curtis (Johnny Pearl) Payton, Erdis (Ann) Payton, Jerry Payton, Frankie Payton, Neal Payton, Jeffery (Shellee) Payton, and Dallas Payton, all of Sandusky; special daughters, Terry (Marcus) Payton, Dominique (P.J.) Payton, Danyale Payton, Mycala Harvey, and Octavia Rice, all of Sandusky; step-daughters, Tonya (Mike) McGee and Bobbie Neil Darby; brothers, Marvin (Hazel) Owens, Earl (Etha Mae) Owens, both of MS, and Ervin (Mattie) Owens, Sandusky; sisters, Grace Trotter, Waynesville, MO, Helen (Prentiss) Kitchens, Magalean Pickering, and Liz (L.C.) McGee, all of MS, and Allean (Tom) Eppse, Sandusky; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; special son-in-law, Willis "Scoot" Harvey, and special sister-in-law, Mattie Owens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Payton Sr.; son, Jessie Payton Jr.; daughter, Ruth "Mookie" Harvey; brother, M.C. Owens; sisters, Mattie Mae Haynes, Girtha Clark, Ruth Buckhalte, and Viola Owens.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 24, 2011, from 7-9 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Johnathan Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.
