Marjorie Helen (Anderson) Grad

Marjorie Helen (Anderson) Grad, 89, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2014 at Providence Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mitzi was born on November 5, 1924 in Erie, PA to the late Walter and Marguerite (Graham) Anderson.

Mitzi graduated from Strong Vincent High School and was a graduate of Villa Maria College in Erie, PA. Mitzi was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Sandusky Yacht Club, the Catholic Family Movement, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a volunteer at the former Providence Hospital and the Victory Kitchen. She was an RCIA leader and helped on the funeral luncheon committee. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, serving others and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mitzi's smile lit up a room. She was very gregarious and loved to chat, but also had the unique gift of listening to others. All her children's friends used to say "I love your mom!" She was a wonderful example of what it means to be selfless, always putting the needs of others before herself. This extended beyond her family and into her community. Her core belief was Jesus, Others, Yourself. Her faith in Christ was the foundation of her life. She did not bow to the culture but held fast and stood up for what was right, even if it was not popular.

Mitzi chose to be a stay at home mom and sacrificed much to do it, but she made her husband "the happiest man in the world" and made life "beautiful for him". She had a 68 year love affair that people envied, and raised 6 children to know the value of hard work and having a heart for the less fortunate.

Mitzi is survived by her husband, Robert Grad, whom she married on June 29, 1946. She is also survived by her sons, Gary Grad of Lakewood, David and William Grad both of Sandusky; daughters, Lisa (Bill) Klaus of Huron, Amy (Craig) Kenne of Sandusky and Carol (John) Kimmons of Greensboro, NC; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mitzi was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Curtze and Lois Brennan.

Friends may be received on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited Friday, July 25, 2014 at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.
