E.J. "Jack" Mulaney

E.J. "Jack" Mulaney, 87, residing in Huron, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Jack was born on December 27, 1926 in Sandusky, OH to the late Edward F. and Agnes S. (Souter) Mulaney.

Jack was a 1944 graduate from Sandusky High School and a 1950 graduate of Ohio State University receiving his bachelor's degree in Radio Journalism. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in World War II. Jack was self-employed as a marine surveyor for 47 years. During those years he owned and operated both the Mulaney-Bixler & Associates, Inc, and the E.J. Mulaney & Associates from 1988 until his retirement in 1999.

Jack was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Huron, former member of the Sandusky Yacht Club and the Sandusky Elks #285. He was still involved with the Science Lodge #50, Singara Grotto, Maumee Valley 32nd Degree Mason, and was lifetime member and past president of the Harlequins-Sandusky Community Theatre. He also acted and directed in numerous productions throughout the years. He was a volunteer at Firelands Regional Medical Center for 10 years. He and his wife Joyce where recipients of the Community Service award from the Erie County Chamber of Commerce in 2003 and the Sandusky Register Community Award in 2007. In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing, spending time on the water and spending time with his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce (Baker) Mulaney, whom he married on August 25, 1951. He is also survived by his son Michael Mulaney of Huron his daughter, Martha Burrows; of South Carolina son, grandson, Benjamin Howard; South Carolina; and four great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Ohio St., Huron, with the Reverend Eugene Smercina presiding. Inurnment will be in Christ Episcopal Church columbarium.
