Richard J. Meyer, 68, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 29, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Richard was born on June 24, 1946 in Fremont, OH to the late Herman and Ann M. (Patynko) Meyer.
Richard was a 1964 graduate of Fremont St. Joseph's Catholic High School and received his pharmaceutical degree from Ohio Northern University and his MBA from Ashland University. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany and Washington D.C., where he worked as a pharmacy technician and an ambulance driver. He was the director of pharmacy at Sandusky Memorial Hospital for a number of years, worked with major hospitals across the country implementing pharmaceutical software programs, and then returned to Sandusky in the late 1990s to work at the Ohio Veterans Home as a pharmacist. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Cleveland sports, photography, computers, politics and spending time with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his sisters, Susan Meyer and Jeanine Steinle; nieces, Jennifer (Danny) Martin, Michelle (Andrew) Goodhart and Christine Steinle, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Friends may call on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A prayer service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky with Rev. Philip S. Feltman presiding. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
