Erma Alice Gates, 94, of Monroeville, died early Friday morning August 1, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
She was born August 20, 1919 in Collins, Ohio to August and Emma Martin.
She had lived in Monroeville for the past 42 years. Erma was a 1937 graduate of Monroeville High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing.
She is survived by one son, Norbert (Brenda) Gates of Norwalk; one daughter Deb Gates of Monroeville; three grandchildren, Michael Gates of Monroeville, Michelle (Jerry) Gowdy of Sandusky and Dean (Chris) Gates of Brunswick, Ohio; one great granddaughter, Janay Jones of Sandusky; one brother Melvin Martin of Norwalk and two loving pets, Willie and Marissa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Gates, her parents August and Emma (Hipp) Martin; four siblings, Howard, Harold, Rita and Marie and one daughter-in-law Ruth Gates.
Friends may call Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 4, 2014 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Father William Pifher will officiate. At the request of the deceased cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in her memory to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
