John P. Kent, 83, of Huron, Ohio, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 2, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 15, 1931 in Jamestown, New York to the late Reuben J. and L. Edith (Loeb) Kent.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S.S. Saipan during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Tool & Dye department of New Departure Hyatt of Sandusky, Ohio, on June 1, 1991, with 29 years of service.
John was a member of Pioneer Power of Sandusky, Ohio, F.A.R.M. of North Fairfield, Ohio, Lake Erie Antique Power of Berlin Heights, Ohio, LaGrange Engine Club of Wellington, Ohio, Ely Lodge #424 F. & A.M., Vermilion, Ohio, American Legion Post #83, Sandusky, Ohio, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge #2875, Huron, Ohio.
He enjoyed buying and selling at flea markets, yard sales, auctions, tinkering, fishing, horses, and snowmobiling. John also enjoyed bicycling, riding motorcycle and a.t.v. trails, vacationing at his Pennsylvania camp, polka, American history, hit & miss antique engines, antique tractors, and antique tools. He especially enjoyed his family, and had the "gift of gab".
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia I. (Churchill) Kent of Huron, Ohio, by his children, Linda (Paul) Weilnau of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Laura (Chris) Shample of Norwalk, Ohio, and Reuben (Jennifer) Kent of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his grandchildren, Brenda Weilnau, Melissa Weilnau, Lexi Kent, and Josie Kent.
John was preceded in death by his siblings, Paul Kent, Beverly Eckert and Arlene Neuhauser.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, where Masonic Services by Ely Lodge #424 will be held at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. William Enderle will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights, Ohio, with military graveside services.
