Antoya L. Ashford, 35, of Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, August 10, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sandusky on May 19, 1979.
Antoya was a 1997 graduate of Sandusky High School, received her bachelor's degree in Education from Bowling Green State University in 2001, and was working on her Master's degree in Special Education at Toledo University.
She was a teacher with the Sandusky Public School System for 13 years, first as a 7th grade teacher and then as an Education Interventional Specialist, and also worked many years at Cedar Point.
Antoya was a member of Agape Love Ministries, where she was Assistant Superintendant of Sunday School. Her spiritual journey began at Emmanuel Temple Church, as a child. She loved to line dance, fry chicken, collect movies, collect pens, and spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her father, James Ashford, Sandusky; mother, Jeanette (Swopes) Ashford, Sandusky; her siblings, Kelvin Ashford, Senatobia, MS, Roderick (Ginger) Swopes, Alicia Ashford, Erica Ashford, Shantelle Ashford, Devon Ashford, Delmonte Johnson, Cashmere Ashford, and LouElla Ashford, all of Sandusky; maternal grandmother, Geneva Parker, Sandusky; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Kendrick; and her paternal grandparents, Charles & Lillie Ashford; and maternal great grandparents, Robert and Ida Swopes.
Friends may call on Friday, August 15, 2014, from 6-8 P.M. in Agape Love Ministries, 4013 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. in the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Rd., Sandusky. Bishop Clifton Jones, Sr. will provide the eulogy. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Memorial contributions in Antoya's name may be made to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 W. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, or to Sandusky City Schools Disability Programs, 407 Decatur St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
