Fred L. Springer, age 78, of Collins, died peacefully Friday, August 22, 2014 at his residence.
He was born September 29, 1935 in Norwalk.
He attended Bronson School and graduated from Milan High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Tank instructor. He worked over 30 years for the Huron County Highway Department, and retired after 15 years from Erie Black Top. He enjoyed spending time with family and farming. He attended the First Church of Christ and Church of Christ in Greenwich. He also enjoyed attending and displaying at antique tractors shows.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cathy (Fessenden) Springer of Collins; daughters, Marilyn (Tim) Schwartz of Alabama, Lee (Ron) Springer of Collins, Carrie Weinert of Collins and June (Jake) Reep of Greenwich; a brother, Glenn Springer of Bladensburg, OH; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ann Springer; brother, Eugene "Gene" Springer; sister, Doris Whidden; son-in-law, Jim Weinert; nephew, Eric Whidden.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow on the family farm.
