Elmer "Mike" L. Burkett, age 71, of Norwalk, died peacefully Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his residence.
He was born February 5, 1943 in Shelby.
He attended Norwalk High School and served in the US Army in Korea as a Tank Instructor for two years. He worked over 23 years for the Ford Motor Co. and painted residential and commercial buildings. He attended and displayed at car shows, repaired clocks and enjoyed walking his dog, Lilly Mae. He was active with AA for over 21 years, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by children, Mike Burkett of Bedford, Jeff Burkett of Monroeville and Gail (Paul) Daly of California; and his lifetime partner, Pauline McGue of Norwalk; step-children, Paul and Ronda; and six loving grandchildren..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iden and Mabel (Day) Burkett; brothers, Jim, Ralph, Clifford, Raymond and Lawrence Burkett; sisters, Helen and Glena Burkett.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Private interment will be held at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery.
