Dennis H. "Denny" Gilbert, 67, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday, August 27, 2014 morning at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Denny was born on November 11, 1946 in Sandusky, OH to the late Harold and Lois M. (Maschari) Gilbert.
Denny was a 1965 graduate from Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force who proudly served his country from 1965 to 1971, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a manufacturing technician at General Motors, retiring after 30 years of service. In the more recent years Denny had been running the DHG Second Hand Store. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Denny will be remembered as a jack of all trades, who was a talented and hardworking man who could build and repair almost anything, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Denny is survived by his wife, Nancy (Jones Gilbert), whom he married in 1990. He is also survived by his sons, Donald (Annie) Monk, Ronald (Rachel) Harrelson and Michael (Jennifer) Monk; 11 grandchildren, John, Josh, Kathleen, Seth, Shay, Preston, Alex, Michael, Carisha, Kayla, and Zach; 6 great-grandchildren, Kevin, Ka'maria, Addison, Kaielle, Olivia and Michael; sisters, Pauline Edens, Stephanie and Candace Gilbert; brothers, William (Donna) Borden and Stanley (Susan) Gilbert; special cousin, Della Stewart, and numerous nieces, nephews, special aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Denny is preceded in death by his brother, Joel Borden.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Father Joe Steinbauer presiding.
