Dorothy Jane "Doddie" Shaw, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Parkvue Healthcare Center.
Dorothy was born on August 4, 1924 in Glouster, Ohio to the late Howard and Jennie Mclaughlin.
Dorothy was a graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo. While in school she met the love of her life, Bernard, and they married on June 12, 1943. They were happily married for 67 years until Bernard's death in 2010, and were a true example a loving, supportive marriage.
She worked for many years as a sales associate at the Lion Store in downtown, Toledo. She later worked as the gift shop manager at Werkman's Ace Hardware, retiring in 1992, after 19 years of service. After moving to Sandusky in 1994, she volunteered at Firelands Regional Medical Center for ten years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and extremely proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing crafts, traveling, and attending her grandchildren's activities. Dorothy loved her years living at Plum Brook Estates and the Community at Parkvue and participating in their activities.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Edward (Carol Stein) Shaw of Toledo; daughters, Patricia (Michael) Babiuch of Huron and Marcia (John Zimmerman) Smith of Toledo; grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) , Ryan (Allison), Shawn (Nadine Azzam) Babiuch, Jennifer (James) Barber, Bradley (Monica) Smith; great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Babiuch, Alyssa and Kayla Barber, a great-granddaughter due in October; sister, Jean Lang of Wadsworth, Ohio; sister-in-law, Betty Lou McLaughlin of Hamburg, New York; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Including her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Jack McLaughlin.
Friends may call on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 5-8 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 AM, with Rev. Bill Michaels, Chaplain of Parkvue Healthcare Center presiding. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.
