Richard J. "Dick" Smith, 75, of Monroeville, died Monday morning, September 1, 2014 in the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland following a brief illness.
He was born September 13, 1938 in Norwalk and was a 1957 graduate of Monroeville High School.
Dick was a lifelong farmer. He had also served as a former Peru Township Trustee and was a former Huron County Fair Board Member. He and his late wife Ruth were 4-H Advisors for many years. He was a carpenter, had played baseball and dartball in his younger days.
He is survived by his children, Wendy (Don) Crites of Cynthiana, KY; Shannon (John) Perry of Monroeville; Chris (Cindi) Smith of Monroeville and Julie (Stephen Fox) Smith of Britton, MI; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters, Janice Smith and Marlene Smith both of Monroeville; one brother, Lyle (Sue) Smith of Norwalk, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ruth M. (Rosswurm) Smith in 2007 and his parents Raymond and Muriel (Lehnart) Smith.
Friends may call Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. The Rev. Amy C. Little will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville.
