Paul G. McAllister, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, September 7, 2014 surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Paul was born at home on May 25, 1926 in Garfield Heights, OH to the late John and Margaret (Green) McAllister.
Paul graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland and The Ohio State University. He was a Veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. In 1969, Paul and his family moved from Cleveland to Sandusky to become the executive director of the Sandusky YMCA where he worked for many years, and his greatest accomplishment was raisings funds for the new YMCA facility.
Paul was a past commodore and member of the Sandusky Sailing Club, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sandusky where he sang in the choir, performer at the Harlequins Theater, and active in the Sandusky Rotary Club. He was a well-rounded athlete, talented musician, a veracious reader, reading at least one book a day, and always lived life to the fullest. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Susan (Robert) Gliatta of Milan and Jane (Jaime) McAllister-Scher of Topanga, CA; one son, Paul (Regina) McAllister of Huron; five grandchildren, Brooke Spaulding, Bart (Erin) and Raub Gliatta, and David and Emily McAllister; four great-grandchildren, Julia, Sophia, Dominic and Lucas; sister, Cate (Jerry) Dodd of Atlanta, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Fulton) McAllister in 2005; his son, Peter McAllister in 1993; and two brothers, Richard and Neil McAllister.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson St, Sandusky. Friends are invited to gather at the Sandusky Sailing Club following the service.
