Robert W. "Bob" Deitz, 72, of Sandusky and formerly of Monroeville, passed away early Friday morning, September 26, 2014 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.
He was born November 14, 1941 in Erie County and was a 1959 graduate of Monroeville High School and had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Bob was an appliance salesman at Sears, Roebuck and Company and at the former A.W. Roberts & Sons until his retirement at the age of 62. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, Roby Lodge #534, F.&A.M., Althea Chapter No. 438, O.E.S. both of Monroeville. He also had served on the Monroeville Village Council for two terms. Bob loved collecting antique furniture, especially "tiger maple" wood.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Karen B. LaFene; two grandchildren, Anthony and Carina; two brothers, his pets, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Deitz; his parents, Lloyd and Ruth (Ehrdman) Deitz and grandparents.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation and family services will be held with Chaplain Mel Salyers of Stein Hospice officiating. Entombment will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 2321, Sandusky, Ohio 44871-2321.
