He was born on August 5, 1940 in Sandusky, and was a lifelong resident.

Alvin graduated from Sandusky High School in 1958. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky.

Alvin and his wife, Sharon, owned and operated Al's Locksmith Shop for over 32 years. He was Erie County's first Certified Master Locksmith by the Associated Locksmiths of America. He was a member of the Associated Locksmiths of America, the Safe and Vault Technicians Association, and the Penn Ohio Locksmith Association, where he was a trustee and received an award for outstanding service in 1998 and received the Weigand Jensen award in 1999 for teaching numerous locksmithing classes.

Before locksmithing, he was a truck mechanic for Homberger Trucking, McKelvey Trucking, and Sandusky Cement Products. He also worked at Scott Paper Co. He was an honorary life member of AMVETS Post 17, a member of the American Legion Post 83, and a member of the Orioles Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping, making tools, teaching locksmithing classes, and working on his restored 1930 Model A Huckster.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon L.
