Curtis E. Thacker Sr, age 85, of Collins, died Thursday evening, October 2, 2014 at Twilight Gardens Home in Norwalk.
He was born September 2, 1929 in Wayne, WV to the late Roy and Bertie (Marshall) Thacker. He was a Deputy with the Huron County Sheriff's Department and served in the US Army. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and especially being in the outdoors. He loved all types of animals, specifically horses. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always proud of their many accomplishments. He was their #1 fan. Just as Curtis served his country, his eldest great-grandson, Brandon Gottshall, is currently serving in Afghanistan as an MP in the US Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Thacker of Lucasville, OH and Becky Frantz of Springfield, OR; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Bentley of Huntington, WV and Merle Jean of Wayne, WV; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Iona Bernice "Nonie" Thacker in 2011; children, Curtis Thacker Jr., Terri Thacker and Mertie Thacker; brothers, Teddy Thacker and Robert Thacker.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron with military honors.
