Marie A. (Correy) Grubola

Marie A. (Correy) Grubola, 101, formerly of Detroit, MI, then Huron, OH passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 7, 2014 at her son's home in Pleasant Ridge, MI, where she had been living for the last 2 years.

Marie was born on August 9, 1913 in Detroit, MI to Michael J. and Adele (Yezbick) Correy.

She lost her mother at the age of 2 and was raised by her immigrant (Lebanon) father who started a grocery store business in Detroit. She had to leave school, where she excelled in the ninth grade to work in his store and eventually care for him. Marie continued to work in the store after she was married and in 1953 she lost her husband and father in the same year and went on to raise three young sons by herself. Never idle and always cheerful her entire life, if you listed her occupation it would be to serve and help others.

Marie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church while living in Huron. In her spare time, she enjoyed her family, especially the grandkids, reading, gardening, puzzles and playing cards (runs and sets) with her granddaughters.

Marie is survived by her sons, Douglas (Dorothy) of Huron, Richard (Barbara) of Pleasant Ridge, MI and James (Kay) Grubola of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Kristin (Allen) Jenkins, Heather, Kelly (Brian) Troiano, Morgan (Andy) VonBerg and Alec; great-grandchildren, Branden and Brenna Jenkins, Kenley Troiano, Verity VonBerg and Candace (Rob) Jenkins-Wertz; great-great grandchildren, Quinten and Tristan Wertz and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J Grubola in 1953; sister, Isabell Boucher; brothers, Floyd and Phillip Correy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in Pleasant Ridge, MI at a later date. A mass of remembrance will take place at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Huron, OH at a later date. Inurnment will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.
