Jimmie R. Pickens Sr., 79, Sandusky, passed away peacefully at his residence, in the loving presence of his family on Wednesday, March 9, 2011.
Jimmie was born on March 28, 1931 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to the late James and Nettie M (Jones) Pickens. Jimmie married Clara Mae Moody on June 14, 1952 in Wayne County, Mississippi. After leaving Waynesboro in the early 1950's, he and Clara moved to Sandusky, Ohio where he worked as a foundry worker at Farrell Cheek for many years, ultimately retiring from Cedar Point in 1997. He was an active member of Porter Memorial Church, Sandusky.
Jimmie leaves behind his loving wife, Clara; sons, Henry E. (Deborah) Pickens, Columbus, OH. and Jimmie R (Denise) Pickens Jr., Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Hattie McDonald, Ruby (Joseph) Coleman, Winnie (Lorenzo) Johnson, and Clora Pickens; grandchildren, Shannon, Brannon, Brian, Rachel, Jamil, and Drew; and numerous great grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by son, Donnie Pickens; daughters, Teresa A. and Patricia A. Pickens; 4 brothers, Mayrown, Henry, David, and Bill; and sisters, Jennie V. Howard, Ernestine Howard, and Helen Smith.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 3-5 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services to be held at Saint Luke United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Mississippi on Thursday, March 17, with Reverend Shirley Chambers officiating.
