Brenda Joyce Gates, 61, of Norwalk died early Saturday morning, October 11, 2014 at her residence unexpectedly.
She was born February 5, 1953 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Charles and Rosa Collins.
She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1972. She met her soul mate, Norbert Gates and they married May 17, 1973. She enjoyed watching old movies, her pets and talking on the phone with her sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years Norbert Gates of Norwalk, three children; sons Dean (Chris) Gates of Brunswick, Ohio and Michael Gates of Monroeville, Ohio; one daughter, Michelle (Jerry) Gowdy of Sandusky, Ohio; one granddaughter, JaNay Jones of Sandusky, Ohio; five sisters, Carolyn (Moses) Croskey of Portsmouth, Ohio, Wanda (Kenneth) Carver of W. Portsmouth, Ohio, Shirley (Charles) VanHoet of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Helen (Wayne) Howerton of Pontiac, MI and Ruth Ann (Bob) Adkins of Portsmouth, Ohio; one sister in law, Violet Collins of Portsmouth, Ohio; her pets, Rosie, Princess and Precious, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Charles Collins, Sr. and mother, Rosa Collins; brother Charles Collins, Jr.; sister, Donna Knuckles; mother in law, Erma Gates; father in law, Leo Gates; brother in laws, Moses Crosby, William Knuckles and Doug Adkins; one niece, Terry Shaw; nephews, Larry and Gary Collins.
Friends may call Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 15, 2014. MSGR Ken Morman will officiate. At the request of deceased cremation will follow. Committal services for the family will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
