Salvatore "Sam" J. Esposito

Salvatore "Sam" J. Esposito, 61, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 27, 2014 in York, Pennsylvania.

Sam was born on August 24, 1953 in Sandusky, OH to Joseph and Joanne (Bahnsen) Esposito.

Sam was a 1972 Margaretta graduate, lettering in football, basketball and track; setting many records in all sports. He was inducted in 2010 into the Margaretta Sports Hall of Fame. Sam received an Associate's Degree of Applied Business in General Business Management from the Lorain Community College. He worked as a certified environmental specialist in the nuclear power industry. His work took him from the East to West coasts, most recently with the Local 1180 at the Peachbottom Nuclear Power Plant in Pennsylvania. Sam was a retired member of the Local 480 Sandusky.

Sam was an avid sports enthusiast, supporting his children and many nieces and nephews throughout their competitions and performances. He was a gourmet cook and his passion was to open his own Italian family restaurant in Sandusky. To his siblings, he wasn't just a brother, but their friend, counselor, teacher and great debater. His heart and pride were his children, Nicholas, Alyssa, Stephanie and granddaughter, "Ella."

In addition to his parents, Sam is survived by his children, Nicholas, Alyssa (Brent) and Stephanie Esposito; granddaughter, Eleanor "Ella"; siblings, Carl (Debbie) Hall, Linda (Joe) Lane, Vicki (Dennis) Bird, Mark (Linda) Esposito, Tammy Esposito and Gina (Tony) Reino and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Sam is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Harry and Caroline Bahnsen; paternal grandparents, Salvatore and Mary Esposito; brother, Larry Esposito and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 9:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church 428 Tiffin Ave. Sandusky until the time of the funeral mass at 10:00 am with Father Joe Steinbauer presiding. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements.
