Earl E. Koch

Earl E. Koch, 89, of Sandusky, died Monday, November 3, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born on January 28, 1925 in Sandusky, to the late Earl and Elda (Stein) Koch. Earl was a 1943 graduate of Sandusky High School.

Earl served in the U.S. Army Intelligence during WWII, stationed in Dallas TX, and worked on the Manhattan Project.

He worked at Philco, where he met his wife, Ruth Jane (Scherer) Koch. Earl then went to work for Frank "Toots" Maschari and Pepsi-Cola, and then worked for New Departure as an electrician, retiring in 1991.

Earl was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Sandusky, 67 year member of Perserverance Lodge #329 F. & A.M., where he served as the Tyler for 12 years, 65 year member of Sandusky City Chapter #72 R.A.M., where he served as the Guard for 13 years, 65 year member of the Sandusky City Council #26 R. & S.M., where he served as Sentinel for 13 years, and a 65 year member of the Erie Commandery #23 K.T. He also was a member and past officer of Singara Grotto.

He is survived by daughters, Kathy Koch, Karen (Rick) Bacni, and Gena Patton, all of Sandusky; sons, Gary Koch of Sandusky, and Todd (Rachel) Koch of Bellevue; grandchildren, Greg (Kristy Williams) Bacni, Molly (Aaron) Brown, Ben Bacni, Alan Koch, Scotty Koch, Alyssia Koch, Shawn Koch, Janel Koch, Micaela Koch, Gavin Koch, and Alexis (Tim) Kanode; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Jane (Sherer) Koch in 1987; and his parents.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, from 4 to 7 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Perserverance Lodge #329 F. & A.M. will hold masonic services at 7 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Winner officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, where the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will provide military honors.
