Lawrence Thomas Zawacki, 86, residing in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at his residence.
Larry was born on September 9, 1928 in Cleveland, OH. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII at the young age of only 17.
He was carpenter, working in the construction business for many years.
Larry was an avid fisherman. He obtained his Boat Captain's License and he owned and operated the "Zak's Pack" which was a Lake Erie Sportsman charter fishing business, based in Port Clinton. "Captain Zak" loved Lake Erie and the Sandusky area. Prior to moving into the OVH in 2010, Larry was a long-time resident of Madison, OH. Even though it belied his age, Larry took great pleasure in his natural jetblack hair because he said it was just like the hair of his beloved grandfather, Jacob Zytowiecki.
Larry is survived by many cousins, other relatives, & many friends at the OVH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer A. Zawacki and Cecelia S. (Zytowiecki) Zawacki-Steele.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 11:30 A.M. in the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Burial will be in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
