Helen M. (McMahon) Longer

Helen M (McMahon) Longer, 99, residing the past 10 years in Parkvue Health Care Center, and formerly of Merriweather Drive in Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, December 25, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Helen was born on December 13, 1915 in Sandusky, OH to the late George and Mollie (Maher) McMahon.

Helen attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and was a 1933 graduate of Sandusky High School and a 1935 graduate of Tiffin Business School. Helen and her sisters inherited the family farm, on U.S. 250, which they continued for many years, and later was developed into the LaQuinta Inn by her son. In the 1960's they decided to develop the farm into a housing development that we know today as Ranchwood, in which many relatives lived in and still live in today. Marlenkay Drive that still exists in the development today is named after Helen and her sisters. She continued to remain in the real estate rental business for the remainder of her career. Helen was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Sandusky Eagles. In her spare time, she enjoyed family vacations, particularly her family trip to Ireland, and spending time with all her kids and especially her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her son, Leonard (Elaine) Longer of Sandusky; 6 grandchildren, Jeanne Sibert, Patricia Sibert, Audrey Sibert, Gavin Longer, Ryan Longer and Natalie Schaeffer; 7 great-grandchildren, Daniel Contreras, Kayla Popke, Klarissa Popke, Sherry James, Paul Sibert, Brianna Longer and Cooper Schaeffer.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by husband, John Longer in 1989; daughter, Darlene Sibert; grandsons, Paul, Albert and Richard; grandchild in infacny; sisters, Katherine Sennish and Margaret McMahon; niece, Nancy Hinton and nephew, Mark Sennish.

Friends may call on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 am on December 29, 2014 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.
