Elmer F. Meyer

Elmer F. Meyer, 89, of Monroeville passed away peacefully at his residence Tuesday evening, December 30, 2014.

He was born October 18, 1925 in Owosso, Michigan and had lived in Monroeville most of his life.

Elmer was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1980 after 30 years of service. Prior to this, he had worked at Faulhabers in Monroeville.

Elmer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. John Newman, Chapter No. 1117, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bellevue and Norwalk, Norwalk VFW and American Legion Post 547, Monroeville.

He is survived by his children, Ron (Sue) Meyer of Greenville, SC, Jerry (Diane) Meyer of Monroeville, Alan (Candy) Meyer, Laurie (Mark) Hearing both of Bellevue, Sally (Jeff) Callicotte of Swanton; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one sister, Ann Wise of Norwalk and one brother Albert Meyer, Jr. of Monroeville, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arneita G. Meyer in 1999, whom he married on November 6, 1948; his parents, Albert and Mary (Schroeder) Meyer, Sr. and siblings Leo Meyer, Ambrose Meyer, Aloysius Meyer, Dorothy Wise, Marie Kraft and Bernadette Reed.

Friends may call Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4-7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, Ohio, where the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7:00 PM Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. Fr. Bill Pifher will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph School Endowment Fund or to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
