Ella May "Susie" Moyer, 75, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday afternoon, January 9, 2015 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center after a brief illness.
Susie was born on January 12, 1939 in Sandusky, OH to the late McClure Sr. and Elizabeth M. (Sweeny) Mathews.
She worked for 17 years as director of nursing with Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Sandusky and then at Ohio Mentor Clinic Care as an L.P.N. She also worked in private health care and had two special friends, Stephen Stehle and William Lipp, for whom she cared for in her home for many years. Susie became an ordained minister for an inter-denominational church and enjoyed performing weddings and baptisms in the Sandusky area. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a former member of the Sandusky Altrusa Club. Susie was a very organized person, and was extremely giving and generous, always taking care of her friends and family. She started the Sunshine Committee at her nursing home to ensure all residents and staff received birthday cards. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and she always enjoyed telling friends of their accomplishments.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Tami (Gregory) Schultz of Castalia, OH; two grandchildren, Paul and Sara Schultz; two brothers, John (Dolly) Mathews of Catawba Island, OH and Jim (Barb) Mathews of Ft. Myers, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Susie is preceded in death by husband, Dale R. Moyer in 1987.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Kathleen Shuck presiding. Burial will follow in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia, OH.
