Billie Sue (Jessee) Lay, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Thursday morning, January 15, 2015 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Billie was born on May 28, 1931 in St. Charles, VA to the late Lenard and Pina (Cook) Jessee.
Billie was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital for over 10 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, needle point, reading her romance novels and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Billie is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Lowell Lay, whom she married on November 19, 1945. She is also survived by her daughters Barbara Jean (Allen Coffey) Tajkowski, Peggy (Steve) Heidl and Mary (Michael) Walton; grandchildren, Brian (Teresa), Mike (Tracy), Jason, Christopher (Stacey), Sara, Scott (Laura), Bryan, T.J. (Jenifer), Jessica and Stephen (Cierra); 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine (Dan) Harple; brothers, Jimmy (Barb) and Bernard (Pat) Jessee; daughter-in-law, Darlene Lay and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Billie is preceded in death by her son, Larry J. Lay; siblings, Junior Terry, Jack and Christine Jessee, Betty Ecklebarger and Gloria Burrell.
Friends may call on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11:00 am until the time of funeral services at 2:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky with Pastor Todd Nielsen presiding.
