Floyd R. Slauterbeck, age 88, of Sandusky, died Sunday morning, February 1, 2015, at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 14, 1926, and graduated from Port Clinton High School and attended Chicago Medical School.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky. Floyd served 12 years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a man of many trades, and could fix or build anything; he was also a very accomplished mechanic, and was a Volkswagen specialist. Floyd retired from Ford Motor Co in 1982, and also owed his own auto repair shop, and worked at Deiderick Motors and Magruder Hospital. He loved traveling and camping across the United States and has gone as far as Alaska, towing a camper.
He is survived by his wife Ollie (Spears) Slauterbeck, daughter Debra (Clarence) Graves, son David (Tammy) Slauterbeck; three granchildren Aaron (Lesley) Schardt, Joshua McGuire, and Katie McGuire; one great grandchild Jacob Schardt; brother Delton (Louise) Slauterbeck; and several nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his first wife Ada P. (Fields) Slauterbeck; parents Ralph and Cecilia (Brenzo) Slauterbeck; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 12 noon until time of funeral services at 2 PM, Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
