Ruth Frost Parker

Ruth Frost Parker, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday morning, February 14, 2015 at Parkvue Health Care Center after a brief illness.

Ruth was born on December 18, 1922 in Cleveland, OH to the late John and Zella (Lawrence) Frost. The Frost family moved to Sandusky in 1938, the city she would call home for the next 76 years.

Ruth graduated from Sandusky High School in 1941 and went on to the College of Wooster where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1945. She then studied to be a medical technician at Northwestern Medical School and was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital as their chief medical technologist. On October 7, 1954, Ruth married William J. Parker and then devoted her energy to raising their children John, Jim and Allison.

Ruth was an active and loyal member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Her passion and love for her community can be seen throughout Sandusky. There truly was no worthy cause that she would not support. Her legacy lives on at Parkvue Health Center, the Sandusky State Theatre, the Merry-Go-Round Museum, Firelands Hospital, Shoreline Park and her restored buildings in downtown Sandusky.

Ruth loved sailing, antiquing, gardening, traveling and playing bridge. Ruth was the consummate night-owl often staying up late working on projects, watching TV or calling friends and family way past bed-time. Her energy and passion for life, her deep commitment to her causes, and her dedication to her family were admired by all that knew her.

Ruth is survived by her three children, John (Valerie) Parker of Sandusky, James (Julia) Parker of Lake Bluff, IL and Allison (Peter) Van Hartesveldt of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren, Christopher Parker, Sarah (Nilesh Agrawal) Parker, Will (Mei Zhou) Parker, MacNeil (Christine) Parker, John James Parker and Lucy Parker; four step-grandchildren, Marcia (Tim) Hahn, Mark (Vera) Roberts, Matthew Roberts and Scott (Lauren) Roberts; and two step great-grandchildren, Daniel and Jack. She is also survived by her loving relatives in Canada, and her extended Parker family, with whom she always remained close.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1985.

Private family services will take place and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky is assisting the family with arrangements.
