Sharon A. Benninger

Sharon A. Benninger, 71, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 15, 2015 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.

She was born on October 6, 1943 in Fairmont, WV to the late Gaylord and Genevieve (Dennison) Benninger.

Sharon attended East Park Elementary and Middle School, East Fairmont High School, where she graduated in 1961, West Virginia University, where she majored in Education and obtained her Bachelor's degree in 1965, and Bowling Green State University, where she received her Master's in Education and Counseling. Sharon was employed by Sandusky City Schools. At Sandusky High School she was a biology teacher and later became a guidance counselor after obtaining her Master's Degree. Sharon retired in 2000 after 30 years of dedicated service. She touched the lives of many young people, always looked out for their best interests, helped them gain self confidence, and guided them through difficult times. Sharon was also the owner and operator of Truly a Treasure, LLC, where she utilized her special skills and talents in creating needlepoint and contemporary jewelry designs. She was very active as a child in Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts, International Order of Rainbow for Girls and church choir at the Baptist Temple in Fairmont, WV. Sharon was a Elder at First Presbyterian Church, in Huron. She was a member of Greater Faith Church, in Sandusky.

Sharon is survived by her companion of over 38 years, Donald Harris; her brother, Gary (Helga) Benninger of West Bloomfield, MI.; one nephew, Eric (Danielle) Benninger; three great nephews, Jacob, Andrew and William; one niece, Britney Stiebert; two great nieces, Cadence and Haven; special friends, Sally (Thomas) Sprunk and Judy (David) Wilber and a host of other relatives, friends, and former students.

In addition to her parents, Sharon is preceded in death by her grandparents and her special grandmother, Annie Dennison.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 11:00 AM until the time of the Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky.
