M. Eugene Grote, 85, of Bellevue passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at his home.
He was born May 2, 1929 in Green Springs, Ohio the son of Harry and Dorothy (Slaymaker) Grote.
Gene was a 1947 graduate of Bellevue High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He was employed by the former New Departure in Sandusky until his retirement in 1985 after 38 years.
Gene was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bellevue, Eagles Aerie 490 Bellevue and UAW # 913.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Goss, whom he married June 19, 1982; daughters, Gayle (Scott) Francis of Bellevue, Colleen (Tim) Soule of Clyde, Jill (Scott) Gildenmeister of Bellevue; step-son, Jerry Goss of Columbus; step-daughters, Helen (Lloyd) Leinbaugh of Powder Springs, GA, Cathy (Skip) Ruppert of The Villages, FL, Linda Berry of The Villages, FL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy Grote, niece; Marie (John) Blackburn of Englewood, OH and nephew; Hal Simon of Milan.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marna Metzger in 1981; one son, Ted Grote; grandson, Chad Francis, sister; Luella Simon, brother-in-law, Wilbur "Si" Simon; nieces Karen Fay Simon, and his parents.
Friends will be received on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 2 - 5 pm p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 1pm. With Rev. Justin Jump officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
