Chase B. Heyman

Chase B. Heyman
October 14, 1927 - March 6, 2015

Our beloved Dad passed away at his home on March 6, 2015 after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Ridgefield Township, he died in the same home where he was born.

Chase was born on October 14, 1927, son of the late Althea Marie and Walter Lewis Heyman.

After his Dad died when Chase was two years old, he grew up in Lorain with his mother, stepfather, sister and brother and spent time with his maternal grandparents, Ed and Kate Miller on their farm.

Chase attended Lowell Elementary and Whittier Junior High School in Lorain where he met and began lifelong friendships which he cherished his entire life. He graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1945B. He graduated from The Ohio State University, in March 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
Chase and Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Schmeltzer married on April 18, 1953. She preceded him in death in 1994.

Chase and Betty are survived by children Kurt and his wife Sue, Huron; Eric, Norwalk; Jane Tinker Monroeville; Kyle, Norwalk; Katy and her husband Tom Sherlock, Urbana, Illinois; Adam, Norwalk; Chase and his fiancé Joan McCoy, Norwalk; and Jody and her husband Jeff Kashian, Norwalk. Chase is survived by a sister, Dawn and her husband Vince Moreno, Lorain; and a brother, Doug and his wife Carol Mathews, Lorain. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his very good friend and companion, Eleanor Jabbusch.

Chase was a lifelong farmer, letting his beliefs about conservation best management practices guide the development of his family farm. He had served on several boards in the community: the Monroeville Cooperative Grain Company, Sunrise Cooperative, Agricultural and Stabilization Conservation Service, Huron County Soil and Water Conservation District Board for 45 years, and the Ridgefield Township Board of Zoning Appeals. He was currently a trustee for the Erie Basin Resource Conservation and Development Board, the Heymann Historical Society and was a member of other fraternal organizations. He will be remembered for his sense of responsibility, his love of music, history, and literature, his pride and interest in his heritage, his business mind and his love of family. He loved his country and all of the nature in it.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Chase Heyman Scholarship, Huron Soil and Water Conservation District, 8 Fair Rd, Norwalk, Ohio 44857; Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, PO Box 10086, Toledo, Ohio 43699-0086; Heymann Historical Society, 2417 Mudbrook Rd, Huron, Ohio 44839; and St Joseph School Endowment Fund, 79 Chapel St, Monroeville, Ohio 44847.

Friends may call at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St, Monroeville on Tuesday March 10th from 2 pm until 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 51 Chapel St, Monroeville on Wednesday March 11th at 10 am.
