William B. Smith , age 83, of Castalia, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born July 22, 1931, in Groton Township, to Lawrence and Alma (Schaefer) Smith.
He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1949, he retired from Union Chain with 40 years of service, and owned and operated S&S Machine Tool Co. from 1981 - 2013. Bill loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports, he enjoyed hunting and watching the crops progress through the seasons.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette (Offenburg) Smith, three sons Jeff (Jean) Smith, Gary (Sheri) Smith, and Marty (Sally) Smith; seven grandchildren Tiffany (Brent) Maillard, Drew Smith, Abbi (Tony Tietsort) Smith, Ashlee Smith, Jacob Smith, Alex Smith, and Tyler Smith; four great grandchildren Gage Byington and Ava, Tate, and Zeke Maillard.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Lyle and Paul Smith.
Friends may call from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 12, 2015, until time of services at 11:00 AM, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
