Jesse Hagy

Jesse James Hagy
January 10, 1934 - March 10, 2015

Jesse Hagy passed away in his home yesterday surrounded by his children.

Born in Panther, West Virginia and raised in Oakwood, Virginia, it was his talent at Garden High School that led to two Virginia State High School Championships and a scholarship to play football and basketball at the University of Virginia. It was here he met his wife, Lynn, and they made their way back to her hometown of Huron, where he continued his love of sports and teaching for over 40 years at Huron High School. Many will remember him working summers at his other businesses; The J & B Clothestree and The Gull Harbor Marina.

His love and dedication to basketball led his teams to several conference championships and back to back undefeated regular seasons. Although he coached multiple sports, including football and golf, he is most remembered as a teacher, mentor, and a role model to his players, students, and peers.

Jesse is survived by his children, Leslie (Terry) Simon, Liz (Matt) Swain and Joel (Jenny) Hagy; grandchildren; Rod, Alex, Jennifer, Jacob, Harper and Campbell; brothers, Ralph (Pauline), Jerry (Cynthia) and Andrew (Kathy) Hagy; sister, Linda (Johnny) Sloan.

In addition to his parents, Jesse is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn (Roderick) Hagy and siblings, Frank, George and Helen.

At the family's request, a private memorial service will take place. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Sandusky Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute to Jesse's memory may do so to The Garden High School Alumni Association, Attn: Mary Sue Dean, 172 Cherokee St., Pounding Mill, VA 24637.
