Rev. Lee C. Kent, 82, of Sandusky, transitioned from this life to a better place, on Monday March 30, 2015 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born to Albert and Sarah Kent October 7, 1932 in Sylvania, Georgia. He was one of 16 children to this union.
He accepted Christ at the early age of 15, at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Sylvania, Georgia under the Leadership of Pastor W.H. Thomas.
After leaving Sylvania, Georgia he moved to Harrisburg, Pa., then to Detroit Michigan, and finally making the move to Sandusky, Ohio. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company of Lorain, Ohio for 35 years and retired in 1990.
After moving to Sandusky, he became a member of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Sandusky, Ohio where he served in the following ministries Usher Ministry, Sunday School teacher, Trustee Ministry and was ordained in the ministry by Pastor Fred Tucker as a Deacon. He accepted the call to the Ministry and was ordained under the Leadership of Rev Eddy Henry.
Reverend Kent accepted the call to be the Sr. Pastor of the Second Baptist Church in New London Ohio where he served for 21 years. He continued serving in the ministry, under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Johnson at the Fairfield Baptist Church where he served for 2 ½ years before returning to New Jerusalem MBC where he continued to serve under the Leadership of Pastor Curtis Johnson Jr. until 2011. In 2011, Reverend Kent made the transition from the New Jerusalem MBC to the Providence Missionary Baptist Church Sandusky under the leadership of Dr. Scottie L. Aaron where he served as an Associate, Mothers Ministry Advisor & Men & Women's Day Chairperson.
He attended the American Baptist College Toledo, Ohio Extension where he received a certificate of Christian Education and also attended the Temple Baptist College of Sandusky. He was a member of the National Baptist Convention of Christian Education, Union Missionary Baptist District Association, Past Vice- Moderator of the Western Region for a number of years and Evangelist for the Western Region. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Sandusky Citizens Coalition and for the CAC of Erie County which he enjoyed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 28 years, Reverend Dorothy Kent.; children Lee C. (Tracy)Kent Jr., Delores (Terry)Patterson, Angela (Roy) Thomas of Harrisburg, PA; Kenneth Kent of Cleveland Oh; David (Charlotte) Kent of Murietta, CA; Marcia Johnson, Shawn Caston of Sandusky, Oh;,Terence (Constance) Caston of Atlanta, GA;Lisa (Zachary) Brown of Toledo, Oh.; one sister Dura L. Alexander of Miami, Fla; and one brother Willie (Agnes) Kent of Harrisburg,PA. , and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings in infancy, brothers and sisters; Arlenza Hopkins, Albert Kent, Ella Louise Williams, Hiva Postell, Nathaniel Kent, Joe Neil Kent, Margaret Ann Kent, and children, Jackie Kent and Dawn Hill.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 10 A.M. until time of his Celebration of Life services at 12 P.M. Noon in Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Dixie Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate, and Rev. Scottie L. Aaron providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
