Jerry B. Baumgardner, 69, of Sandusky, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born on December 21, 1945 in Springfield, OH. He graduated from Perkins High School and attended Bowling Green State University and Kent State University.
Jerry was on the Perkins Zoning Commission for 2 years, a Perkins Township Trustee for 4 years, where he initiated a Comprehensive Development Plan for Perkins Township, a member of the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and Citizens Advisory Committee, past President of Erie Regional Planning Commission, the executive committee of the Coalition of Large Ohio Urban Townships, former Vice President of Erie County Township Association, 2005 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Perkins Alumni and Friends Association, he was on the Erie County 4-H Camp Board of Directors for 20 years, Perkins Schools Board of Education member for 16 years, 4 years as President, a member of the Perkins Athletic Booster Club, and an Adult Program Instructor for Electrical Apprentices at E.H.O.V.E. Career Center.
He was employed by Ohio Edison Company from 1970 to 1996, as a Substation Electrician, Engineering Assistant/Drafter, Field Estimator, Distribution Technologist, and Line Supervisor. Jerry also worked as Executive Director for Bay Area Neighborhood Development Corporation, General Manager for Wikel Agri-Services Inc., and Operations Manager for Palazzo Brother Electric, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn M. (Schaeffer) Baumgardner; son and daughter-in-law, Shane E. and Michele L. (Ciampaglione) Baumgardner, son, Bradley D. Baumgardner; grandchildren, Angela M. Baumgardner and Garrett E. Baumgardner; all of Sandusky, nieces, Judy (Dan) Ackerman, Jane (Chris) Ladwig-Detrick, Melissa (James) Graham, Robin (Eric) Cramer, Rebecca (Michael) Copeland, Amy (Ken) Pachasa, and Jennifer Patrick; and a nephew, James (Karen) Baumgardner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. and Mary Kathryn (Harrah) Baumgardner; a brother, Major James E. Baumgardner; and sister-in-law, Patricia (Roberts) Baumgardner.
Friends may call on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 W. Mason Rd., Milan. Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney will officiate.
