Mabel Marie (Bartlett) Meggitt, 86 of Castalia, died June 22, 2015 in Stein Hospice.
Mabel was born in The Plains (Athens) Ohio, on May 7, 1929 to the late Charles Bartlett and Vivian (Stage) Gabriel.
She was a member of the United Church Christ of Castalia, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Club. Mabel loved animals, nature and enjoyed spending time sitting by her fish pond. She liked crafts and made beautiful flower arrangements. Mabel worked at several restaurants, eventually retiring from Sawmill Creek.
On February 7, 1948, Mabel married Douglas Meggitt, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sandusky; he preceded her in death in 1990.
Above all she loved her family and is survived by her five children, Linda (Don) McKillips of Castalia, Irma (Butch) Strader of Millbury, Doug (Liz) Meggitt of Castalia, Diane Smith of Berlin Heights, and Mary (Curt) Swain of Castalia; eight grandchildren, Dale (Buffy) Land, Kelly McGuire, Robbie Strader, Camie Bomar, Missy (Chris) Bauer, Katie (Zach) Mucha, Justin (Tatiana) Crank, Travis Chapman; 13 great grandchildren, Miranda Land, Jade, Jessi and Josh Gilliam, Chyeanne and Asta Strader, Katlyn and Evan Bomar, Marlow Bauer, Nicholas and Lucas Mucha, Alexander and Sophia Crank; four great-great grandchildren, Jaylie and Jaycie Fause, Layla Peterson, and Jesse Christianson; her sisters, Carolyn (Ron) Stewart and Brenda Yountz; brother, Terry Bartlett, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mabel was also predeceased by her step father, Virgil Gabriel; sisters, Mary Ellen Shafer and Shirley Spurlin, and son-in-law, Steve Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ, 205 Main St. Castalia, with Pastor John Paputza presiding. Inurnment will follow in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia.
