Emilie Fialka

Emilie Fialka, 93, of Sandusky, passed away late Monday evening, July 6, 2015 at The Commons of Providence after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 1, 1922 in Cook City, Illinois, to the late Theodore and Mary (Michaels) Dutczak.

She was a graduate of Thornton Fractional High School in Calumet City, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL. Emilie taught for 28 years in the Sandusky City School's system, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Retired School Teachers of Erie County, the Sandusky Yacht Club, the American Legion, and the College Woman's Club. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, writing, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Emilie is survived by her two sons, John Robert (Kelly) Fial of Sandusky, and James John (Cindy) Fialka of Huron; six grandchildren, Daniel, Susan, Kerry, and William Fial, Jennifer and Kathleen Fialka; her sister, Maryann Hnatusko; several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Including her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Fialka in 1973; and two sisters, Pearl Zywot and Anne Tymochko.

Friends may call on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky with Father Joe Steinbauer presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
